Designer of the Week-Basil Soda

I first became aware of Basil Soda when Katy Perry and Paula Abdul wore his creations to the 2009 Grammy Awards. Perry in a soft pink number with beaded detailing, and Abdul in a golden yellow dress with lots of metal detailing. While I wasn’t loving Abdul’s choice, Perry hit it out of the ballpark. His designs are all intriguing, flattering, and beautiful!

Here is a description of Soda’s vision:

“Simplicity weaves its way to moods”. Basil Soda opened his own fashion house in 2001 after benefiting from 20 years of experience and exposure in the world of haute couture. Being at the forefront of Middle Eastern chic, Basil Soda is now stitching his stylish mark on Europe and the US.

Basil Soda redefines simplicity to fashion and structure distinct moods which empower women to showcase their personality and timeless charms.

Form, symmetry, shape, and the relationship between points, curves, lines, angles all come together to climax in a mélange of feminine allure. A hymn of pure tones and materials with a potent emphasis on architecture, the creations come alive in their assorted cuts.

Accessories, corsages, muslins, lace, satin, and silk interplay with transparency, opaqueness, and a rich selection of colors with a trademark blue accent and splash of sea hues. The result is an expression of elegance and simplicity which caresses the body and highlights a woman’s inner soul. (http://www.basilsoda.com/, Designer Section)

This is a great FLIP Book of his dazzling Spring/Summer 09 show!(http://en.flip-zone.com/fashion/couture/independant-designers-41/basil-soda-862)

His architecture, detailing, and beading are absolutely gorgeous! Let’s hope we see a lot more of Basil Soda on the runways and red carpets soon!
